Our first day of trekking felt fantastic, so good to get moving.  We climbed the ridges of upper Simikot, made our way down a rocky hillside alongside passing pack animals, and eventually camped in a local family’s field in an area called Dharapuri.  Thanks to our team (not pictured here, they’re making our dinner), our camping conditions were incredibly comfortable:

And I spent the late afternoon with our campground’s owners.  This lovely woman is 28 and the mother of 5, her husband is a local teacher who is also trying to build a school on an adjacent plot of land:
